"Resource Efficiency in Agriculture - Drought, Effective Water Management and Smart Agriculture" information meeting was held online by Mevlana Development Agency Karaman Investment Support Office. Ankara University Faculty of Agriculture Faculty Members Assoc. Dr. Caner Koç and Assoc. Dr. Gülüzar Duygu Semiz participated as a speaker. The meeting attracted great attention by the officials, personnel and regional producers of the Provincial, District Agriculture and Forestry Directorates, Chambers of Agriculture, Irrigation Cooperative Unions operating in the TR52 Konya-Karaman Region.

In the program, Assoc. Dr. Caner KOÇ said that "Smart Agriculture", which is a system approach that brings together Control, Electronics, Software, Database and Analysis elements, has become a necessity due to the increasing water scarcity and drought in many parts of the world today. KOÇ stated that according to the United Nations Population Expectation Report, the world population has reached 7.7 billion by 2020 and this number is expected to reach 10 billion in 2050, 800 million people in the world are hungry and in 2050 there will be 70% more food needs than today. KOÇ pointed out that despite the demand for food in our country, the population engaged in agriculture is decreasing and aging, and the average age of the farmers has risen to 52. However, agricultural areas in the world are deteriorating rapidly and this is caused by soil erosion, wrong fallow methods, alternating farming, overgrazing, irregular fertilization and irrigation, he said. KOÇ, who is also a member of the Agricultural Machinery Association (TAKMAKBIR) Academic Advisory Group and a Smart Agriculture Platform Member, drew attention to the need for an investment of approximately $265 billion/year for the production needed in agriculture in 2030. KOÇ summarized the main objectives of "Smart Agriculture" as follows; Reducing inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and irrigation, Reducing environmental pollution, offering high-quality and high-quality products, Providing a more effective information flow in business and aquaculture, and establishing a registration system in agriculture... Autonomous robots come to the fore as one of the biggest innovations, He stated that with the strawberry harvesting robot, it is possible to harvest strawberries 2 times faster than humans. Emphasizing the importance of agricultural R&D, KOÇ stated that ISOBUS (official name is ISO 11783, a worldwide standard) which is a turning point in the development of agricultural engineering, especially the communication between tractors and attachable equipment, these mobile systems and components.
